People often ask me... How did you get into what you do?
Being of service, helping others and connecting people has always been a strength of mine. I just didn't expect it to be called out in this way. An Overwhelmed Boss out of Control My journey for my own career development and for my career as a Learning & Development expert began years ago. I was working in Berlin. I got an offer at a small German company in their sales department to help them expand their international accounts. It was a dream job, but it wasn’t always easy. I had the most emotional boss who would yell at people, and I unfortunately didn’t escape his temper. One night, before a big trade show, I was still in the building when he came tearing into the shared office. He wanted help making copies , so I started making them, but for some reason, it wasn’t good enough for him. He grabbed the thick pile of papers out of my hand, stuffed them into the copier and hit the start button… at which point the entire copier jammed and revolted. He was so hopping mad, red-faced, and terribly upset. Then he yelled at me, “Are you stupid, or what?!?!” |
Then it hit me. I didn’t have to put up with this.
I was shocked and upset. It wasn't about the copying. He was out of control and had no idea what he wanted from his people. He shot from the hip, and he blamed me, the foreigner, for his lack of planning. At that point I realized “there must be a better way. I don’t deserve this. Nobody does. If the world is truly globalizing, then managers need to be better at dealing with their people, no matter where they’re from”.
Since then, I have made it my mission to help leaders be better leaders, and especially in a global environment. I want to help companies set up fair, transparent people processes that help people know what their job is, help them do it effectively, and set them up for success. As our world and are work become more global, more interconnected, the human relationships are more important than ever to ensure we all are included and treated fairly.
Don't we all want that?

Supporting professionals and leaders around the world
My journey to where I am today, helping professionals, new leaders, and executives, has taken a long time and taken me around the world. I have an MBA in International Management and have worked in Global-500 companies in their HR and Learning and Development teams. I’ve learned from great mentors in corporates, academia, and private practice about what it takes to develop world-class leaders in the 21st century.
I worked in companies in Europe, US, and Asia in their internal training and management development teams, developing emerging leaders and their teams. I particularly enjoyed working with individual managers, whether a first-time leader or experienced executives.
Word got out about what I do. Friends started asking me for advice. And they started telling their friends. They asked me about how to make the most out of their career, how to make the transition into a new job, how to get a promotion, and how to negotiate the best way to that dream job, especially as an expat or in a multinational environment.
I realized that this experience, together with the insights and passion, are a powerful combination that serves to help others. When I worked with people, they would see that I am on their side and want to help make things better. I see the value that others get from what I am able to offer them, and that in itself is a great gift.
With every step I worked with professionals and leaders like you and helped them discover what makes them tick and be successful in our dynamic, interconnected world. Together, we see that there are better ways of dealing with tough situations, stress. There are better ways to plan your time and interact with your team, than what I experienced at that copier back in Berlin.
